Ciaran McLoughlin

UX and Product Design Director / Auckland

Ciaran, aka ‘Kio’, is a Senior Product and UX Designer who has been working in human-centred design since 2004. Based in our Auckland studio, Ciaran is responsible for the UX and Product Design Practice. Ciaran gained his product chops at Google, where he helped drive feature improvement and iterate product design for Google’s advertising platform. After four years working with teams across Europe, San Francisco and New York, Ciaran settled in London. Over seven years in the UK, he helped set up and grow the EU operations of a US ad tech platform, then spent three years with a print-on-demand online retailer with revenues of US$70M, where he established and led a 12 strong UX team. He has provided UX consultancy for clients ranging from fashion retail, such as GAP Inc., through to international NGOs working in disaster prevention and preparedness.

Ciaran holds a Master of Science in human-computer interaction design and psychology from University College London. He loves bringing the science of how and why people behave as they do to his daily work, getting his hands dirty providing user research, and helping clients and teammates navigate complex design projects. He has designed for retail, SaaS tech, utilities, TV, education and finance, and delivered customer experience testing onsite and remotely, including in the UK, US, China, Portugal, Colombia, Ethiopia, Pakistan, and now New Zealand.

Ciaran represents the Irish contingent of the solidly international DNA team. When not in the office, you’ll find Ciaran out and about exploring the New Zealand countryside and getting to know his new home (while confusing Kiwis with his accent).
