Pharmac: Space to Breathe Website

Space to Breathe Website

Pharmac 1

The Challenge

Asthma is common in all parts of New Zealand and can affect people at any age. Many people in New Zealand die from asthma every year. Pharmac needed a site that provided accessible information to parents, kids and Medical practitioners to help them when learning what to do, when to do it, and who to call if your (or your child's) asthma gets worse. The tools and information was required to give visitors/users the confidence to help patients and  families manage asthma better. Pharmac wanted to deliver a website aimed at medical practitioners, parents and caregivers to align with an above the line period of awareness building activity – but with the intention that the site would stand alone past any media/campaign activity.

The Solution

Asthma is a condition that affects the airways in the lungs. The airways become narrower than normal. This makes it harder for you to get air in and out of the lungs, and causes wheezing (noisy breathing). People can grow out of asthma, but it can also reoccur. The site had to have a simple and easy IA and interaction design that allowed all 3x user groups to get what they needed simply and easily. The design tied closely to the offline marketing campaign, the website is an important touch point for the overall campaign, its key role is to facilitate access to information on how to manage children with asthma and provide supporting tools and resources.

The Result

Large numbers of users have visited the site – and metrics show significant unique visitors and long session times.
