Best Effect Award finalists

We think DINZ (the Designers Institute of NZ) should be applauded for adding the 'Best Effect Award' and the 'Nga Aho Award' to the Best Awards roster this year. Now, alongside the Effies and the likes of TUANZ, DINZ has an effect based offer – these established awards programs have always been spot on when they have celebrated by asking "not what you can create, but what can creative do for your client".

The Best Effect Award measures the return on the design investment and the impact of that return on the organisation’s overall performance. The award is judged by a panel of leading business people with deep experience of design investment. Our finalists in this Award are Powershop and AMP's 'Do Your Thing' initiative.

The Ngā Aho Award recognises excellence in 'Aotearoaness' – design that reflects a clear understanding of who we are, by responding to our indigenous culture, heritage and sense of place; as well as design that results from meaningful collaboration. Our finalist this year is the New Zealand Childcare Association brand evolution.

The Best Effect finalists represent a broad, deep and significant contribution to New Zealand business. Amongst the finalists are businesses moving primary produce up the value chain, revolutionising pest management, making people care about their power usage, deploying digital media inventively to enrich engagement whilst slashing costs. The challenge for design has been to be taken seriously by business for many years. That imperative is all the greater in these constrained times. The effect of any activity in a business is scrutinised in ROI terms. What we do is no longer commissioned because of what design is – but rather because of what design does. See more at the Best Awards site.

Also, across in the graphic category we have been recognised with 3 finalists – the Treatme Now launch video and demo, the Promohouse brand and the ACC Activesmart V2 application.
