Service Design can be described variously as either small, iterative and manageable changes to service experience for customers or all encompassing and holistic transformation to businesses – but generally it is the practice of delivering great on-brand customer experiences using optimised and efficient business systems and operations.

Lately we have been 'talking' Service Design with a few of our clients, even 'doing' Service Design with some of them and last week our intrepid Insight Strategist, Sherryn Macdonald headed off to San Francisco for the annual global gathering of all things Service Design – the Service Design Global Conference 2011. The Conference is a platform for developing expertise in the business and practice of the innovation and improvement of services through the application of design. This year the gathering in San Francisco was on 20-21 October and Sherryn was there to share our New Zealand experiences and capture new learning's to bring back.

Sherryn was also part of the Service Design Network planning day held at Adaptive Path following the conference. DNA is the only New Zealand company to be part of the Network and we will be actively contributing to how service design is shaped, understood and delivered in the future.

You can follow her feeds at @sherryn and watch out – next year we will be presenting with great NZ based knowledge and application.
