AUT Excellence and Innovation awards winner.
The AUT Business School Excellence in Business Support Awards celebrate excellence across ten diverse business support sectors ranging from technology and export support to not for profit, government and sales and marketing.
About the awards:
“AUT Business School takes great pride in these Awards which allow us to recognise and celebrate the best providers of business support in New Zealand. Without business support organisations and individuals, the performance of businesses here would be greatly affected and it’s important that we acknowledge the very important work that they do. From sales and marketing, and helping behind the scenes with everything from compliance and logistics to administration and maintenance, these businesses help keep our New Zealand industries running effectively and efficiently,” said Professor Geoff Perry, Dean of the AUT Faculty of Business, Economics and Law.
The Awards, founded by AUT Business School’s Director of Business Relations and Executive Education Sarah Trotman, are now in their eleventh year. They are the only national performance measure for New Zealand organisations that provide business support. Applications are judged by evaluators from the AUT Business School with oversight from the New Zealand Business Excellence Foundation.
Why we entered:
These awards were a way to profile DNA as an innovative business doing great work for clients seeking to put customers at the centre of their services and products.
We looked at this as a way of benchmarking our services and practice, organisational robustness and milestones on our path through significant transformation against other like businesses. Our transformation is from being a proficient experience design consultancy, to a business delivering effect through applying customer intimacy and digital innovation to clients with existing problems and pain point - and increasing for those seeking to execute sustainable innovation.
What we won:
DNA were announced as the winner of the Colab Design and Creative Technology Support. We were also a finalist in the $5-20m Business Support category.
Why we won:
We believe our entry was successful because in the past couple of years we have been focussed on a strategy driving growth, effect and eminence – in both CX and digital. In this time we have nailed heaps of the process and structural things many like businesses struggle with, we now work in increasingly flexible and agile ways, we have a clear strategy that is well understood across the business. In addition, we have been transforming ourselves at some pace, we have a remarkably open and transparent culture, we have universally embraced continuous improvement and we are getting improved results and are working in a way that adds demonstrable value to clients.
The brief acceptance speech:
Grenville Main, DNA’s Managing Director briefly acknowledged the win at the awards:
"Chaos seems a much more natural state for a creative company, but we’ve embarked on a strategy reliant on excellence, process and innovation. The entry process for these awards really made us look hard at things (our progress, our focus, how far we've actually come and what we can measure to demonstrate value), which was a great bit of forced reflection. As a business, we've been focused on process, improvement and effect for a while, and its an understatement to say it's a big hill to climb – we can't see the top yet, but the view even thus far is making it worthwhile. We have a truly great team, great clients and work on great projects helping unlock value through customer intimacy and delivering digital innovation. That makes our days, weeks and months fly by, and truly fascinating, challenging and invigorating – this award is great to receive - we are in great company here tonight, and are very honoured - thank you”.
