Best Effect Award finalists cover a diverse range of sectors.

This year saw the third iteration of the Best Effect award as part of the New Zealand Designers Institute's Best Awards.

DNA, led by effort from Noel Brown, advocated hard to get the Best Effect award introduced, so we are delighted to see it grow year by year.

This year the category saw more entries, from more entrants than ever, reflecting a multi-million dollar investment in design of all kinds by a wide range of New Zealand organisations.

We were delighted to again be on the list with a number of our clients in this category – BNZ, Powershop, Private Flight and Rinnai.

Best Effect Awards

The outcomes that can come from investment in design thinking and application are truly good for New Zealand.

They are earning us income in the right ways offshore, improving our health and wellbeing, providing services to customers in ways they want them – and much more. Collectively, the entrants into Best Effect are proof that progressive New Zealand organisations recognise the importance and the power of design to transform.

The Best Effect judges commented that entrants this year “not only demonstrate the most potent effect of design, but reflect the best in design processes. They are grounded in user and customer realities. They are imaginative and innovative, and through iterative development and testing, deliver superbly. The designs were produced by agencies, in house teams, engineers, developers and more – but always by teams collaborating for the best effect”.

Entries from the private, public and not for profit sectors show that progressive New Zealand organisations see design as an essential and powerful tool. They use it to shape what they do, how they communicate, and how they develop for the future. Whether they are looking to profit more in international markets, serve citizens better, improve health and wellbeing or make services more efficient and utilise, they invest in design and look for a healthy return.

The awards went to Private Flight Touchpoint design (Silver Award), Rinnai Neo gas fireplace (Silver Award), BNZ You Money (Gold Pin Award) and Fisher and Paykel Simplus mask (Purple Pin Award).
